Africae urbs ad mare mediterraneum, Straboni et Plinio l. 5 c. 4. erica Syrtim. Abrotonum herba est notissima, quae Arabice vocatur Caisum; an ex eâ nomen traxerit Abrotonum urbs, quaerant peritiotes. Ego (inquit Bochart. Phaleg c. 24.) Abrotomum pro Abaritano oppido dici suspicor, quod ex Abarâ factum sit, ut ex Membresâ, Membresitanum, ex Maxula, Maxulitanum etc. nempe Abara Gap desc: Hebrew i. e. traiectus, aut vadum, dici potuit, propter vada ad vicinum lacum.
